Have you found a profitable CTL strategy?

A while ago we started a poll on this blog. For a few months we asked visitors if they have found a profitable CTL strategy. Lets have a look at the results.

43 % did not find a profitable strategy
23 % is close to having found one
12 % has one but with small profits
14 % has one with good profits

For the 43% that hasn't found any profitable strategy yet:

Well it all depends how long you have been looking for it and how much time you have been spending looking. It is not because you don't have anything yet that you will never find what you are looking for. We all know how depressing it can be trying to find that perfect strategy and seeing it fail time after time. Maybe you need to start over with a total new approach. Or maybe you should take some sabbath time to let it settle all. Nothing wrong taking a break and starting again with a fresh view.

For the 23% that is close to having found a profitable strategy

Well don't give up now. If you are that close! Have a look at your strategy again. Especially at the losing trades it makes. Don't try to make a strategy that never makes a losing trade. Losing trades are just part of it. You should look at the BIG losing trades and try to find a way avoiding those big losers. Making a profitable strategy is all about optimizing the profits and minimizing the losses.

For the 12% that has a profitable strategy with small profits

Well I hope you shared your strategy with the rest of us. Other wise shame on you ! :-) A lot of scam expert advisor (robots) sold about everywhere on the internet are based on taking small profits with huge stop loss. I hope you're strategy isn't one of those. That kind of strategy is usually the recipient for a disaster sooner or later. If you have found something that makes small profits with relatively small stop loss than you are sure on the right track. In that case maybe you should start using MT4 or another trading platform. Maybe with a demo account. Why? Well we don't know what the future will bring. Will the platform still support CTL? If not you better be ready to migrate to another platform.

For 14 % has one with good profits

Well congratulation. I hope it isn't a big profits with big risks strategy. If not why are you not sharing that strategy with us. :-) I know what I would do if u would be in your shoes. I would focus on getting to reproduce that strategy on another platform. Imagine that you start you strategy tomorrow and you get an error message that it isn't allowed to execute any automated strategy on the platform. Not that I want to scare you but who knows what they will pull out of their sleeves. GFT hasn't been boosting my confidence lately...

  1. Most people will not share their strategy if its is really good. Would you? That's why most strategies you find on internet are often far from good. So the only way to have a really good strategy is to make one on you own.
